Description

Lithuanian company producing cast iron products conducted cleaner production assessment and identified opportunity to save energy resources by recovery of heat from melting furnaces and to use this heat for wet sand drying. The project enabled to save approximatelly. Before innovation, dysel fuel was used in the wet sand drying process.

Advantages

Environmental benefits:
  • fuel saving - 33,6 t/ year;
  • air emission reduction - 9 t/year (3.6% of total air pollution of the company);
  • electricity saving - 146 000 kWh/ year.
Anual savings approximately 24 000 EUR, pay-back period - 2 ,3 years

Innovative aspects (ecologic, social and economic)

In addtion to environmental (reduction of energy consumption, air pollution) and economic benefits (savings due to energy consumption reduction), the project also contribute to improvement of work conditions (modernisation provided heat insulation).
