Description

Before innovation implementation all wastewater from the beamhouse became sewage. The waste water contained detergents and other chemicals. The following improvement steps have been made in the tannery:
1. Wastewater from degreasing and rinsing operations is used in the soaking operation;
2. Wastewater from squeezing operations after first and second washing is used for squeezing after soaking;
3. Wastewater from degreasing and rinsing operations is used for squeezing after the first washing;
4. wastewater from the second washing is used for the first washing. Wastewater from a degreasing operation is used for the first washing.
5. Wastewater from degreasing and rinsing operations is used for the second washing.
 

Advantages


Environmental benefits: reduction of water consumption, reduction in chemicals consumption, energy savings, and decrease of pollution load to wastewater.

Economic enefit: because of reduced costs for chemicals and more efficient use of water, the annual savings in the given case was ~ 100 000 USD (pay-back of the investment was only 6 months.

Innovative aspects (ecologic, social and economic)

This innovation enables recirculation of wastewater and has clear economic and environmental benefits.
