Description

Chalk is particularly liable to form coatings due to the high moisture content. Disruptive coatings which formed at a standard feeders fitted with a triple flap feed gate at the cement works in Chelm led to the breakdown and removal of the feeder very quickly.
The cellular wheel chambers of the new rotary feeder are cleared from chalk coatings by a positive mechanical scraper which allows for a reliable mass flow of 400 t/h. Besides feeding the impact rotor drier, the rotary feeder eliminates the influx of false air caused by system-dependent negative pressures of up to 5000 Pa (0,05 bar) which resulted in savings of 660,00 litres of fuel oil per year and, hence, a short amortisation period (several months).

Innovative aspects (ecologic, social and economic)

Since recently, there is a growing demand in the cement industry for efficient material feeders with particularly high seals due to the increased use of vertical roller mills both for producing raw meal and for grinding cement and granulated blastfurnace slag. There is also a wide variety of possible uses for the rotary feeder in other industries and for handling particularly difficult secondary materials such as sewage sludge.

Application examples


The rotary feeder with scraper was successfully installed at the cement works in Chelm, Poland, in April 2007. It is therefore a best practice example not only from a technical, but also from the transnational point of view.
