Prior to the implementation of this innovation, natural gas water boiler was used for a heat production in the company. This water boiler was uneconomical and energy inefficient. Therefore, a bio-fuel boiler with a moving cast-iron firegrate for straw combustion has been instaled. This modernization enables to save energy, reduce consumption of fuel as well as it gives indirect impact to the environment in regard to reduced air emissions due to electrical energy savings. 


Implementation of bio-fuel water boiler in the heat supply company focused on electrical energy and fuel savings as well as on reduction of air emissions has clear economic and environmental benefits. The technology is practically tested.

Innovative aspects (ecologic, social and economic)

Environmental Aspects
  • Reduction in electrical energy consumption for production unit - more than 1.38 kWh/ MWh;
  • Reduction in PM, CO, NOx, SO2 and CO2 emissions from stationary sources of pollution - more than 200 t/ year;
  • Reduction in CO, NOx, CnHm, SO2 and PM emissions from mobile sources of pollution - more than 0.600 t/ year;
  • Reduction in wastes from combustion process - more than 400 t/ year.

Economic Aspects
  • Total investment is approximately 1 million EUR. Total profit from the project implementation in a second year was almost 280 000 EUR/ year (payback period - 3.6 years).
