Predect AB provide customised on-line and database solutions to detect contamination, report with alarm and a system to collect water samples “just in time” for further confirmation by chemical and microbiological analyses. Predect AB have developed a sensitive model to detect, predict and prevent water born diseases caused by bacteria and parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Predect’s technology is based on a sophisticated laser sensor which is beamed through water passing by in the system. This light source “hits” particles in the water causing various forms of refraction, light scattering, and light extinction. Using a proprietary software algorithm focused on each treatment plant’s water profile, the Predect system detects indicators of microbiological contamination and classifies the pollutants into relevant categories such as bacteria and parasites.
Since every water system has its own unique “footprint” depending on source, climate, area etc., it is imperative to define the specific water profile where the Predect system is to be installed. After installing the system, when contamination levels exceed threshold levels, a real time water sample is collected and automatic alarms are sent via mobile systems and/or via the internet. This helps to assure optimal responsiveness; either it is a municipal facility treating the local water supply or an industrial process sensitive to potential costs of contamination. Furthermore, the system can be programmed to automatically control and adjust the treatment process itself.


Predect’s system is an online real time monitoring, sampling and analysis system for microbiological contaminations in water. It has several advantages:

Environmental Aspects
Clean drinking water, our most precious and essential resource, is quickly becoming humanity’s most endangered resource. Globally, an estimated 1.1 billion people do not have consistent access to clean water. At current water consumption rates, The United Nations Population Fund projects that over 60% of the world's people will live in areas where safe water is scarce by the year 2025. Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization, 1.6 million people die per year due to unsafe/unclean drinking water, most of these casualties being children. By improving water quality, an estimated 10% of the global disease burden could be prevented.
Predect’s early warning system detects abnormal levels of micro-contamination as they occur in real time, immediately alerting responsible authorities so that immediate corrective action can be taken. This not only protects the population at-large and avoids expensive and dangerous outbreak, but also allows for water treatment systems to improve and optimize their treatment process, e.g. minimize use of disinfection chemicals by providing system operators with water samples at the most opportune times, when micro contaminants such as bacteria and parasites are present at elevated levels.

Application examples

Today, Predect offers three different models/configurations-Predect 100, Predect 300,and Predect 500. Each unit is designed according to customer’s specific functional requirements.

  • Predect 100 - Continuously monitors micro-pollutants in source water.

  • Predect 300 - Continuously monitors micro-pollutants in drinking water.

  • Predect 500 - Continuously monitors micro-pollutants in recycled/new water
